June 21st, 2018 - Chelsea is thrilled to share that Nadav Kander's mystifying 'The Last da Vinci' for Christie's with Droga5 has been awarded a Gold Lion in Film Craft - Cinematography at the 2018 Cannes Lions Festival.
Chelsea President Lisa Mehling was on hand to join Droga5 in accepting the award.
The spot was a viral sensation when it was released in November of 2017. Chelsea and Droga5 placed hidden cameras under Leonardo da Vinci's "Salvator Mundi", on display at Christie's auction house in NYC ahead of its' much anticipated public sale. The painting sold for over $450 Million, absolutely smashing previous records for art sold at auction, a story that spread like wildfire online, often with Nadav's film in tow.
A montage of mesmerized faces make up the piece, mostly strangers, with brief cameos from Leonardo DiCaprio and Patti Smith. It takes on Nadav's singular, auteurist style and fully translates the power of da Vinci's piece without ever showing it. Adweek called the 4-minute+ spot "sublime" and "lovely, almost transcendental.
